I was born and raised in Winnipeg and started my professional journalism career at the Winnipeg Free Press. I went on to work at the Canadian Press wire service in Winnipeg, Montreal and Quebec City, and then the Montreal Gazette where I wrote all kinds of stories, including investigative pieces on white collar crime, and travelled to the U.S., Latin America and China. I live in Montreal.

My first novel, Omand’s Creek, was an Amazon bestseller that the Montreal Gazette praised as “the best Canadian crime debut in recent memory.” It was short-listed for an Arthur Ellis crime writing award.

My books deal with different aspects of life in Manitoba and reflect my fascination and, yes, nostalgia for this part of the country with its rich and much underappreciated culture, history and landscapes.

The Faithful was no less challenging to write than my first novel. Once again, I am grateful to my family, friends and the experts I consulted for their help along the way. They shared their knowledge with me, read the manuscript at various stages, or did both. I couldn’t have written The Faithful without them.
